My English journey by the Atlantic Ocean has officially begun. The 10-hour drive felt like a rite of passage to the start of my adventure. The hills and plains brought the beauty of nature to the ever-changing tints of the road, going from blue to red and even green. The Easter holiday has permitted me to take my time with my arrival and get to explore some of the city before starting to work at the Hi Heritage House. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I got to visit the old Citadel situated in the middle of the city with its star-shaped walls and defenses standing imposingly over the cityscape. The main building still stands strong in the now mostly empty courtyard. It represents the heritage of the 19th century English army, still showing the embedded soldiers\u2019 walking routes. Also, I got to admire some of the street art embellishing the brick walls of its buildings, giving the city its personality and bringing life to its industrial looks. I\u2019m interested to see how many I can find throughout my stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staying at a hostel allows me to meet many people from across the world. I met some people from Australia, Labrador, Vancouver, Germany, Latin America, and even from our popular city of Montreal. We all got to talk for long hours about our different cultures and learn about our native tongues and the misconceptions the world has towards them. We also got to visit a farmers\u2019 market, allowing us to discover the local cuisine and arts of the city as well as from around the world. One example would be the Queijadinha, a dessert from Brazil made with coconut and parmesan cheese. Highly recommend it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

First workday tomorrow, I\u2019m impatient to see what other surprises the city and the hostel have in store for me. See you next week! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
