My visits to the museums\u00a0in Yellowknife\u00a0were enriching. At the Prince of Whales Northern Heritage Centre, I learned about the animals of the land and their connection with Indigenous communities. I also learned about the RCMP Special Constables,\u00a0who\u00a0were Indigenous\u00a0people helping the first immigrant constables to survive in the arctic climate, and about the colonial history in NWT. In the Yellowknife Historical museum, some of the information was being repeated, but I also learned a lot about the mining industry that created Yellowknife and its impact on the environment and Indigenous communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the snow melts, I hiked Back Bay\u00a0Trail to see the famous Ice\u00a0Falls and Ice caves. It was truly\u00a0magnificent! Those long and thick icicles were forming a wall closing the space between them and the rock cliff,\u00a0creating a small\u00a0hiding spot.\u00a0Along the trail, I stumbled on a\u00a0cemetery dating from the 1930s. I apologised\u00a0for intruding\u00a0and paid my respect.\u00a0The same day, I walked the Prospector Trail where I could have\u00a0encountered\u00a0a bear. Fortunately, I\u00a0didn\u2019t;\u00a0I only saw bald eagles in the sky. And\u00a0here\u2019s\u00a0my advice when hiking during the winter;\u00a0stay on the\u00a0trail, unless\u00a0you want to\u00a0walk\u00a0in knee-deep\u00a0snow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next week,\u00a0I will\u00a0initiate\u00a0myself to the art of glasswork by going to Old Town Glasswork, where it is possible to create your own glasswork. I will also visit the NWT Diamond Centre to learn more about the diamond mining industry occurring in Yellowknife\u00a0and might as well buy some souvenirs.\u00a0Have a good one and see you\u00a0later!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
