Immersion

What is the immersion?

WHAT?

All Language Program students must do a 6-week immersion in another language and culture to graduate.

There is no such thing as a typical internship. Each student builds their internship based on their interests, making each experience unique.

Students have volunteered in hotels and hostels, in shops, on farms and nature reserves while others have studied and taught in language schools.

To date, more than 120 students have been able to live an enriching experience all over the world.

Which language should I choose?

An important step is deciding which language you would like to perfect…English or Spanish?

What destination should I choose?

You can do your internship anywhere around the world!

We encourage students to go to an English or Spanish speaking country but you can also do it in a non-English or non-Spanish speaking country. Take note that your assignments will however be done in English or Spanish.

To date, our students have travelled to over 30 countries! You can browse through this website by either searching your preferred destination, type of project, host or language to get inspired.

If you’re undecided you can get personalized recommendations from your coordinator.

Can I choose my host?

You have the freedom to build your immersion based on your interests and tastes which allows you to find and choose the host that best suits you.

You can either select a host from our list of trusted hosts or find one yourself.

Your choice, however, needs to be approved by the internship coordinator.

Can I receive any financial assistance?

Yes, there is a variety of bursaries you can apply for inside and outside the cegep.

The bourse de mobilité étudiante of the Cégep de La Pocatière and the Bourse de la fédération des cégeps are specifically for students that have to do a internship abroad for their studies.

There are also bursaries for CECM students who are socially involved or who have excellent academic results.

As for outside of the cegep, you can reach out to your financial institution, municipality and/or local clubs as they sometimes offer bursaries for these types of projects.

What do I do in terms of a passport and visa?

You are responsible for all of the documents needed to enter another country and arrive at your destination, be they visas, documentation, insurance, or vaccinations, for example.

As every country has different requirements, it’s a good idea to check your destination country’s embassy website.
