Entry 1: Yellowknife, here I come!

Canada, English, Volunteer World

Every journey must start somewhere. Mine, started in the Montreal airport and did not go as planned. My flight had been delayed, leaving me with less than an hour between my arrival and my next flight. I could feel the panic raised in my chest, but in the end, I had time to buy lunch and eat it before the take off to Yellowknife. At least, the landscapes were worth the stress and I was able to achieve one of my dreams: see the northern lights!

Northern Lights

Unable to stay in place, I decided to explore the city. During my walks, I discovered trails between woods and houses exclusive to pedestrians. On one of these, I encountered a fox. Both of us were surprised to see each other, but as I got my phone to take a picture, it was already moving away. At least, I was able to take an unclear photo of it.

I made a bunch of new furry friends in only three days. My favourites so far are Chloe, a white husky that is 12 years old and a tortoiseshell cat named Raven. Chloe is an anxious dog and Raven is a social cat that likes to be pet. I would have gladly taken her home with me, but unfortunately for me, someone adopted her.

Next week, I will immerse myself in the northern culture. To achieve this, I will visit Old Yellowknife and the Bush Pilot monument. This immersion would not be complete without a culinary experience so I will try local meals in some famous Yellowknife restaurants. Stay tuned for next week news!
