Would you believe me if I tell you that the first time, I’ve ever been on a plane was to go on a 20-hour long flight to New Zealand? I wouldn’t believe myself either! I landed here 4 days ago and I’m still adjusting to the time zone change. The hardest is adjusting to the eating times; I’m always hungry?. However, I’m the luckiest because New Zealand has exquisite local food on every corner! Anyway, New Zealand stories are for another day.

On the 31st of May I flew from Montreal to Vancouver. It was an abnormally bumpy ride. I had to stay buckled up on my seat the majority of the flight. Lucky me, I was reassured by the lovely woman I was sitting next to that went by the same first name as me! When I landed for my 11 hours layover, I had no suitcase, nowhere to be and no one waiting for me. An unfamiliar feeling took over me; I can’t put a word on it, but it felt very unlimited, unconstrained and unattached to everything. Genuinely an incredible feeling!

It was a rainy Vancouver day, but I decided to go out and explore downtown anyway. When I was waiting at the train ticket desk, my heart skipped a beat as someone approached me very quickly, placed something in my hand and left the same way they came. A woman had given me her day pass train card, which I eventually lost because I lose everything. With my free card in hand, I went to Canada Place, then, I wandered in the city and stopped at a chocolate café. I returned to the airport before sunset, went through security and walked about 15km (no exaggeration) to my gate then took off for New Zealand! I cannot wait to see what the country has to offer!
