Entry 3: Almost At the Halfway Mark

English

My second full week in Halifax was one of developing friendships. My coworkers and I went to a place called Activate, where a collection of games was waiting for us. We played for a good 2 hours together, and it was a lot of fun, and we got to know more about one another.

I also experienced a celebration unique to the city called the Halifax Burger Bash. It’s a period of 10 days where many restaurants across the city offer limited-edition burgers custom to their establishments. Some of the revenue is also given to a foundation to help bring food to the population of the city. It’s a perfect event for travelers in search of different flavors and supporting the local population. I got to try four different burgers with my coworkers, and there’s still a lot to discover. I highly recommend checking it out if you ever pass during this time of the year.

The hostel has also allowed me to meet a guy that was 6 weeks into a road trip across the US. He was originally from Texas, and we got to talk for 4 long hours about American culture and how people across the world have a lot more in common than is perceived. I wish him the best on his adventure.

I also visited the shores of the well-known Peggy’s Cove. Its beautiful white and red lighthouse is standing tall among the smooth rock formations, fighting the strong winds coming from the ocean front. Sitting calmly on the rocks, you can hear the strong waves hitting the rocky shore as the wind flows through you, almost pushing you back. It’s a beautiful sight to see and another beautiful example of the beauty and strength of nature. I also had the chance to talk with some of the locals as well about life in general and how the beauty of traveling allows a person to understand and discover more deeply their own self.

Can’t wait to see what the next week has in store for me. In addition to the paintings I still find across the city.
