Halló!
I started my 2nd week in Iceland by taking part in two artistic events in the local village. I visited a fabulous exhibition about Vigdís Finnbogadóttir; the first woman in the world to be democratically elected as a head of state. The gallery honoured her career through amazing vivid painted portraits.

Later, my friends and I went to a play performed by the inhabitants of Sólheimar. Since it was in Icelandic, I did not understand everything, but it was still an interesting experience to be part of. The vibrant costumes and the powerful music brought the play to life even more.

Most of my time is dedicated to volunteering in a tomato greenhouse called Sunna. On a typical day, I water the plants, I plant young tomato seedlings, I harvest ripe fruits and I trim the leaves to help the plants direct their energy into producing tomatoes. Sometimes, we are supervised by Tommy, a very friendly cat who likes to sit on our laps while we work.

The most chaotic moment of my week was probably our hike to catch sight of waterfalls during our day off. What was supposed to be a three-hour hike of approximately 8 km turned into an eight-hour journey of nearly 22 km (basically a half marathon). We got lost while thinking we were heading in the right direction to find an amazing waterfall spot. Let’s just say that I wasn’t disappointed to see my bed at the end of the day. At least, we made it back alive!

In a few days, I can’t wait to discover the stunning beauty of the Reykjadalur Valley on a horseback riding tour and join our postponed golden circle excursion due to the unpredictable Icelandic weather.
Hafðu það gott!
